Located near the Severn river north of Annapolis, Maryland, Severn Oaks Farm was founded by Dr. Elizabeth Iliff in 1947 with the purchase of a Section A Welsh mare, *Coed Coch Ebrill (Revolt x Coed Coch Eirlys), one of the few available for sale in this country at that time. In 1948, Miss Brodrick of the Coed Coch stud in Wales, gathered 9 mares for Mrs. Iliff for importation to Maryland. Several of these mares (*Coed Coch Pansi, *Coed Coch Serog, *Coed Coch Morfa, and *Criban Waaf), with Ebrill, became the foundation breeding herd for Severn Oaks.
Today, the Severn stud continues to breed quality Section A's (and a few half Welsh) under the management of Mrs. Iliff's daughter, Tiz Benedict. There are usually 25-30 ponies on the farm with 4-7 foals born annually.
Visitors are always welcome.
